Question by JJ: Is it appropriate for a columnist to take on readers on a message board? This is a bit of a journalistic ethics I’m wondering about here. When I worked on a paper years ago, it was considered bad form for a columnist to snipe back at a reader who sent a critical letter, such a letter would be printed without commentary. Now these articles are online and usually have a comment board, so do the same rules apply? Is this a forum for the reader or for the writer too?

Question by Sasha Garner: HELP! I’m getting an error 126 message after downloading Adobe Reader!? I’m new to using the Internet. I like reading books, and had to download this program called Adobe Reader to read these files. Ever since then, every time I tried to open these book files, I always get this “error 126: The specified module could not be found” message, and it doesn’t open. I have to click the OK button like three or four times before it shuts off. Did I get a virus or something?

Answer by Sean H I would try to open up Adobe Reader and just see if it will open without any errors. If it opens successfully then I would go and see if I can find just a PDF file like a manual or something from a website to see if it will load that. If you are still getting errors I would try uninstalling the program and then reinstalling it to see if that helps. You may want to see if the e-books you are trying to read are indeed PDF format. You should also make sure that Windows has all of the most current updates.
Question by heart_and_troll: Adobe Acrobat – error message – This document enables Reader capabilities that are no longer supported? Why is Adobe going backwards? Sounds like I should roll back to Reader 7 or 8 and stay there, ignoring all newer versions that are or become available. Usually, capabilities increase version or version, not decrease!

Answer by MLM Adobe Reader 5.0 is ancient. The most recent version of Adobe Reader is 9.3.
Go to Control Panel, Programs and Features and uninstall Adobe Reader 5.0. Reboot. Then go to the Adobe webpage below to install the most recent version available.

As for XP being on the way out, it will still be under extended support until 2014.
