Odd error message when using Adobe Acrobat Reader and Firefox on the Macintosh, where is this fixed?

Question by jumpingrightin: Odd error message when using Adobe Acrobat Reader and Firefox on the , where is fixed?
On the Mac OS X 10.3.9 when using Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0.8 and Firefox 2.0.0.1, when downloading a PDF, it gives an error message of “…Could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences.”
was working fine on previous versions of Firefox and Acrobat, and it seems after a Acrobat upgrade I get error message each time I try to download a PDF. After pressing “OK”, it shows in the download Retry, and after clicking Retry then the file downloads. From what I have found the error message is coming from Firefox, but I don’t see a setting there to change, nor one in Adobe Acrobat. If you have had problem or have a good way to solve it, kindly post your reply.

Go to the “Firefox” menu in the top left, then click “Preferences.” Go to the “Content” tab, and hit the button at the bottom that says “Manage.” In the search field at the top, type “pdf.” (I split off in my directions at point, so read whichever paragraph applies to you.)

If you see anything in the box below, select it and hit the “Change Action” button, then click the second radio button. It will ask you to select an application. Navigate to Acrobat and hit OK.

If you don’t see anything in the box below after your search, double click the list (with nothing in it, of course.) It will ask you to select an application. Navigate to Acrobat and hit OK.

However, when I removed my Adobe Reader 9, that message does not pop up anymore when I close a internet explorer window/

adobe reader has a “Loop hole” that hackers can get into your system, even if you have a firewall. pick up the recent pc magazine at walgreens, it has a nice disk with programs, one of which closes loopholes for you.
