If you go to the download page, and instead of following the normal procedure, click on the “if your download doesn’t start automatically click here” link (which points to ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.0/enu/AdbeRdr90_en_US.exe) that will download the full installer package, rather than using the download manager. Save the file to your desktop, and run it from there. I was having the smae problem, adn it worked for me.

HELP! I’m getting an error 126 message after downloading Adobe Reader!?

Question by Sasha Garner: HELP! I’m getting an error 126 message after downloading Adobe Reader!?
I’m new to using the Internet. I like reading books, and had to download this program called Adobe Reader to read these files. Ever since then, every time I tried to open these book files, I always get this “error 126: The specified module could not be found” message, and it doesn’t open. I have to click the OK button like three or four times before it shuts off. Did I get a virus or something?

I would try to open up Adobe Reader and just see if it will open without any errors. If it opens successfully then I would go and see if I can find just a PDF file like a manual or something from a website to see if it will load that. If you are still getting errors I would try uninstalling the program and then reinstalling it to see if that helps. You may want to see if the e-books you are to read are indeed PDF format. You should also make sure that Windows has all of the most current updates.

Q&A: Adobe Acrobat – error message – This document enables Reader capabilities that are no longer supported?

Question by heart_and_troll: Adobe Acrobat – error message – This document enables Reader capabilities that are no longer supported?
Why is Adobe going backwards? Sounds like I should roll back to Reader 7 or 8 and stay there, ignoring all newer versions that are or become available. Usually, capabilities increase version or version, not decrease!

Earlier Adobe Readers have been “Corrupted”
Try This—-
1. Open Browser (I use Google)
2. Type in “WINDOWS INSTALLER CLEANUP UTILITY”
3. When results appear look for “support,microsoft.com DESCRIPTION OF WINDOWS INSTALLER CLEANUP UTILITY”——CLICK
4. When page opens, SCROLL down to “Download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility Cleanup”—–CLICK
5. When “File download-Security Warning” box appears—–CLICK “RUN”
6. After download completes,–Open “PROGRAMS” on your computer
and look for “WINDOWS INSTALL CLEANUP”—CLICK to open
7. When box opens, look for 8.1.1 or any “Adobe Reader” (I don’t know which version you have installed)—–CLICK to “HIGHLIGHT”
CAUTION—–DO NOT HIGHLIGHT ANY OTHER PROGRAM—CAUTION
8. At bottom of BOX —-CLICK “REMOVE”
9. Go back to “CONTROL PANEL”-”ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS”—Adobe Reader should have been removed
10. Now download “ADOBE READER 8.1.2″ From Adobe
THIS IS NOT USING “BRUTE FORCE” or “HEAVY HANDED” Methods

You need a Mac. The PDF format is built right into MacOS X. PC users waste so much time with Windows.

Does the error message appear before or after you install Adobe reader? Are you downloading and then installing -or- to install while the setup package is downloading? Suggest downloading the setup program and then installing (a good practice no matter what downloadable program you’re installing).

I searched the Adobe technical support documents for the error message you’ve reported and did not find anything relative. Closest match said that errors during installation are often related to a bad download. Obtaining a new download and retrying the installation was the recommended solution.

Hope this helps..
